Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I WANT TO JOIN AN EXISTING TRIP OR BOOK A PRIVATE SAILING CHARTER?

A: We can accommodate any private sailing charter up to 8 people per boat (in addition to a captain and mate).  Details, itineraries, and activities can be customized to meet your individual needs and desires.

Have more than 8 people?  We can also arrange a multi-boat flotilla. You’ll sail the same itinerary, coordinate daily activities, and tie up or anchor together for dinner parties.

Q: WHO SAILS THE BOAT?

A: Every boat has a certified and experienced captain/skipper. This is not boot camp, it is your vacation, and relaxing is high priority. But, your participation is also welcomed and you can do as much or as little as you like with the onboard routine—from sailing to anchoring to cooking and cleaning.

Q: ON A GROUP-TRIP, WHO IS ON MY BOAT?

A: Boats are filled with solo passengers, couples, and friends. There are a limited number of single cabins per boat and passengers booking as a pair will share a cabin with a double-occupancy bed. If you require your own cabin, it will cost more than sharing with somebody else. People who sign up for these sailing adventures tend to be the self-selecting type who value travel filled with exploration and rich new experiences, who look forward to the opportunity to meet new friends and like-minded travelers. Booking a private boat can be ideal for larger groups traveling together.

Q: IS A SAILING BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO JOIN?

A: No, each boat is skippered by a certified professional who will sail the boat and provide basic sailing tutorials to anyone who is interested.

Q: HOW DO I BOOK A PRIVATE SAILING CHARTER?

A: Reach out to us via the Contact Us page or emailing directly to tania.aebi@gmail.com and we’ll set you up. Please include a location(s) of interest, dates, and expected number of guests in your party. We can then discuss options and details.

Q: HOW DO I PAY?

A: We require a 50% deposit to reserve your cabin with the final balance due 60 days prior to departure. We accept checks made out to Tania Aebi Sailing Adventures and paypal payments.

Q: WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE ONBOARD?

A: Living space inside a sailboat is compact but comfortable. Cabins have small closets and drawers for your belongings. Each boat has multiple heads (bathrooms) and showers. They are small, but you will become accustomed to them in no time. Typically, boats have a full galley (kitchen) and dining area—meals can be served on a table there, or in the cockpit. All boats have refrigeration, 12volt DC electricity (like in a car), stereos, and other amenities that all fit together efficiently in the space available. Depending on the location, charter company and boat, other amenities may also be available.

Q: HOW DO MEALS WORK ON THE BOAT?

A: We will provision the boat and meals will be cooked on board. If there are restaurants ashore, however, guests typically like to experience that as well.

Q: ARE THERE ANY HEALTH REQUIREMENTS?

A: Passengers should be physically able to climb ladders and get on and off the boat into a dinghy and onto docks. There is a variety of seasickness and nausea medications available over the counter and by prescription.

Q: WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

A: The price includes full provisioning (no alcohol), linens, all boat, mooring and fuel fees. You are just responsible for flights, meals ashore (if you opt for that over eating aboard) and souvenirs.

Q: WHAT ARE THE EXTRA COSTS?

A: Travel to and from the designated marina is not included. Passengers are also responsible for activities, alcohol, and meals ashore.

Q: WHAT ABOUT TRAVEL INSURANCE?

A: If having some makes you feel more comfortable, we recommend travel insurance. It’s not very expensive, and in the unlikely event that you must use it, we will comply with your request for any documentation or information the insurance company needs.
